All the way back to the beginning of covid-19 Ford consistently chose lobbyists' whims over the advice of scientists and medical experts. Medical staff of all kinds risked their lives for us, lost their lives, took on tremendous physical and mental loads- all while knowing steps that could be taken to help were being ignored. Just so a handful of people could keep profiting. Six years later their hard work is being repaid with funding cuts. Recently my GP exasperatedly told me he'd never seen so many residents quit before. So many people that made up my medical team have either retired or moved to a different province. And who can blame them? They are necessary workers, but they're treated as disposable. Why work long hard hours for not enough money to pay back your student loans? Why stay in a province that's working on privatizing? B.C. has had a quite successful campaign bringing US doctors to come work for them- specifically because the environment of doing medicine where money isn't the main objective is so enticing. People who work in healthcare aren't afraid of hard work, it's the heart-break of a soulless system that does them in. The treatment of the healthcare system and it's workers by the Ford government is sickening. With how fragile our healthcare system is, we can't afford that kind of sickness.
